Summary: Very short and very silly. ~grin~
Disclaimer: Some of the characters in this story belong to the UPN Network and Pet Fly Productions as part of the television show The Sentinel. I do not claim these characters as my own. No money has changed hands.
Notes: Thanks, oh wonderful Beta Beast! I know you'd rather do long ones, and I promise I'm working on one. I just need to get the muse to quit coming up with these short ones at the same time!
"A shirt!" Blair mumbled as he rifled through his dresser drawers and closet. "I need a shirt! Damn, I should've done laundry yesterday!" He dropped the clothes that he was holding and groaned loudly as he caught sight of the bedside clock. It was getting late and he would need to leave soon to pick up his date. "I need a SHIRT!" he cried into the empty loft.
It was a desperate idea from a desperate man. Blair, naked from the waist up, ran up the stairs to Jim's room. "I'll borrow one of Jim's shirts! I can have it washed and back in his closet before he misses it!"
Concentrating on going through his roommate's closet carefully, Blair didn't hear the door open downstairs. He just continued to mumble, "I need a shirt! I need a shirt!" Blair stopped as he came to a dark maroon colored shirt. It was soft and well worn, but was nice enough to wear for his date. "Perfect!" he grinned as he slid the shirt off the hanger and began putting it on as he headed back down the stairs.
Jim had heard his friend upstairs and just reached the bottom step when Blair came down in a flurry of maroon material and loose curls.
Blair saw Jim as he was about half way down and let out a surprised squeak.
Blue eyes met blue eyes as Jim stood at the bottom of the stairs, arms folded and a curious look on his face. "Sandburg, what were you doing in my room?" He studied the shirt that Blair had on, but hadn't yet buttoned. "That's my shirt."
"Um ... I-I-I ...," Blair stammered, standing three steps above Jim. "Yeah ... um ... yeah, this *is* your shirt, man. I was just ... you weren't here ... I'm running a little late and I ... um ..."
"You needed a shirt?" Jim said, trying to hide his growing mirth.
"Aaa ... Yeah. Do you think I can borrow this?" Blair asked, chewing his bottom lip slightly and playing with a shirt button.
"No, Chief, I don't think so."
"Oh ... okay ... no problem, man," Blair said softly, slowly pulling off the shirt, disappointment showing in every feature of his body.
"I think the blue one would be better," Jim said as he started up the stairs.
Jim's words were just beginning to register as the bigger man reached up to turn him back towards the bedroom above.
"The blue one?" Blair muttered in growing confusion.
"Yeah, it'll bring out the color of your eyes, Chief," Jim stated as he followed his partner upstairs.
Jim stepped around Blair when they reached the top and went to the closet. He quickly pulled a bright blue shirt from its hanger and walked back to Blair. "Here, put this on," Jim said, as he took the maroon shirt and tossed it on the bed, then helped Blair into the blue one.
Blair buttoned the shirt and tucked it into his pants. It was a bit large on his smaller frame, but still looked good.
"Looks good, Chief," Jim smiled. "You'd better get going."
Blair looked at his watch. "Oh my God, I'm gonna be late!" He turned and rushed down the stairs, across the loft, and pulled open the door. At the last second Blair grabbed his keys from the basket before shutting the door behind him.
Jim grinned and shook his head as he watched the whirlwind known as Blair Sandburg swirl out of the apartment.
**********
Blair was just sliding the key into the door lock of his Volvo, when he turned and looked up at the light that shown through the balcony windows on the third floor. He smiled a smile that lit his entire face and whirspered, "Thanks, Jim."
An answering smile lit the Sentinel's face as he heard the soft words spoken by his Guide from the parking lot below. "Any time, buddy," Jim whispered as he began to undress for a quick shower. He needed to prepare for his own date now. "Besides, I wanted to wear the maroon shirt."
