I Love You, Mom
by Suzie

Summary: Naomi receives Blair's letter. #5 of the Wanted series.

Disclaimer: Some of the characters in this story belong to the Pet Fly Productions as part of the television show The Sentinel. I do not claim these characters as my own.

Hi Mom,

I sent this to the last place I had an address for. I hope it hasn't taken too long to find you.

Mom, it's happened. The Government is after us. They believe that Jim is a Sentinel, even though I denounced my dissertation. So, here we go, on the run. I wish I could tell you where we are headed and what our plans are, but I can't. If you don't know, then you don't have to worry about making up a story if they show up to question you. Simon Banks should be able to explain some of what's happened.

I'm afraid. I admit it. I'm scared of what will happen to us now that the Government wants us. Jim and I can run forever, we can hide. Jim knows how to do this. But what if they do capture us? What will they do to Jim, to me? What if I don't survive? Jim, as a Sentinel, may go off the deep end without a Guide. I've asked Megan Connor to be Jim's Guide if something happens to me, but if Jim and I are captured, she won't know to go to him or how to find him. If I lose Jim, well, I don't even want to think about that.

We may never be able to return to Cascade. I may never see you again, Naomi, and, my God, that scares me worse than anything. I won't be able to write after this. Please understand, I've tried so hard to find a way to stay in contact, but it would only endanger everyone.

Try not to worry too much, okay? Jim will take care of me, and I'll take care of him. Please, please, please be careful, mom. Don't play games with these people. If they show up, just answer their questions and let it go.

I love you, mom... forever.

Your son, Blair

**********

The letter had finally reached Blair's mother at a retreat in Switzerland. It had taken nearly a month to get to her. She hadn't seen her son in months and hadn't told him of her sudden plans to go to Switzerland. The opportunity had arisen when some friends had told her that one of the couples that had planned to go had to cancel. The ticket was paid for, so how could she refuse. Three months of peaceful meditation and centering, mineral springs to help cleanse her aura, quiet walks in the countryside, and discussion groups on everything and anything imaginable. It was just what she needed. She still had a lot to process.

Naomi reached for a tissue from the box on the table next to her bed. She wiped away her tears and blew her nose, then reread the letter.

"Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed."

The quote by Michael Pritchard pushed its way into Naomi's memory. She was frightened for Blair, and for Jim. They didn't deserve this, and it was ultimately her fault that it was happening. If she had listened to Blair when he'd told her that he didn't want his dissertation critiqued. If she had minded her own business... and not tried to be so *helpful*... Naomi laughed sadly, "If I hadn't tried so damn hard to be a mother."

Naomi decided that she would remain in Switzerland for the remainder of the retreat. She had no desire to be confronted by the Government. Naomi was quickly going from sad to angry the more she thought about the situation. She knew that her mouth could possibly cause more harm then good, and she wasn't about to cause Blair and Jim any more grief. She also couldn't afford to be arrested for assaulting a Government agent. That would help no one. Blair still loved her and Jim had forgiven her, and she wouldn't betray their trust again. She would contact Simon first and find out what had happened. Then she could process the situation properly.

"I love you, Blair... forever."
